I'm Awesome Bassey. I build software systems and I lead the people who build them, usually at the same time.

I started with WordPress in 2017 because building things on the web was fun. I moved into professional software engineering at the end of 2019, took my first offer in 2020, and every year since has moved me further up the stack: React components first, then backend architecture, then the infrastructure all of it runs on, then the teams doing the building.

What that adds up to is that I can take a problem from a conversation to a running system without handing it to anyone. I've written NestJS backends for high-concurrency products, set up the AWS infrastructure underneath them, and built entire business systems on my own.

I've also led teams of up to 15 developers across concurrent projects while acting as technical lead, DevOps engineer and project manager. I mention it less as a boast than as a description of how I work. I'm comfortable being the person who is accountable when the product does not work.

Away from engineering, I hold a B.Sc. in Accounting from the University of Uyo, which turns out to be unexpectedly useful when you're the one explaining scope and cost to the client paying for it.
